What's Going On?

by

Walter Rhett,

M.A., Griot, and Johns Hopkins Fellow

Last week was busy, the Fourth of July, Strom Thurmond's death, and behind the scene's several developments in Charleston tied to the proposed, 40 million dollar African-American History Museum that the Mayor--first elected in 1975--wants to create as a part of his crowning legacy.  The difficulties occur when, as in all ruling groups, the people are not given a chance to share in the economic benefits, or the development of the ideas, design, and emphasis of the planning.

I am planning a tour for a family reunion tomorrow, the Inabinett family, promient as educators and political leaders, and still carrying on the tradition of civil-based participation and educational achievement in the rural areas.  Planning with Mrs. Inabinett was so much fun, she is careful with every detail, and very supportive, without driving you crazy the way many family reunion planners do.  She has confidence in the people she is working with, and that makes the job easier.  I can't wait to meet the extended family.

I have also founded a Yahoo group, www.writingontheweb.yahoo.com .  It's purpose is to be a forum for writers who use diaries, journals, or blogs as a tool.  These writers use one of the humanities methods (describing, comparing and contrasting, examples, analogies, definition. argumentation, induction, deduction, classification) develop the personal essay to draw out points of observation and experience that have meaning for the writer and the broader society.

I am surprised no one has commented on the jazz london link at the bottom of the left gutter.  Try it!  You will absolutely love the programming--straight-ahead jazz, lyrical with quiet, high energy rhythms, and the smoothest R & B on the whole planet.  It's nice to feel cosmopolitian too, while you listen, getting updates of London's traffic and weather, and nightlife.

Leave comments, please!  You are visiting, but I don't know your thoughts or feelings.  Your responses really are important--so please--leave on blog board, or at the end of blog, a comment.  Your ideas are the best thing since dail tone. Thanks.  Your coments help develop the blog, and make a difference in the choices and directions we consider.  A blog-journal is diferent from a newspaper or magazine because it let's you be interactive!  Please share yourthoughts and responses, so I can get to know more about the readership.

Click around the months, and blogs, and have fun!
